  • Keep your home well lit; Install night lights.
  • Use a stepstool to reach items on high shelves.
  • Store the dishes and food you use most on easy-to-reach shelves.
  • Avoid slippery floor waxes; clean up spills right away.
  • Keep clutter away from traffic paths.
  • Install handrails; Get rid of throw rugs.
  • Use non-skid mats in showers and tubs; Install grab bars beside toilets and tubs;
    Be wary of older-style low toilet seats.
  • Keep a phone and flashlight within reach of your bed
  • Sit down while putting on socks, shoes, or pants.
  • When getting out of bed, swing your legs over the side and sit for
